Put your order in today for Troop 113’s shredded hardwood mulch. This annual fund raiser helps the Troop pay for activities, equipment, service projects, and other good deeds the Scouts of Troop 113 do every day in our community.
If you’ve bought from us before, you may want to note a few changes.
First, we are not putting a minimum on the number of bags you can order. However, if you choose to order fewer than 10 bags, you will be required to pick up your mulch yourself. Pick-up hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Second, we are limiting our delivery area to following ZIP codes: 22301, 22302, 22304, 22305 and 22314. People outside these ZIP codes are welcome to order from us, but they would have to pick up their orders during the pick-up hours above.
The reason for these changes are a matter of necessity. Due to the wonderful support you have shown it has become increasingly difficult to deliver to everyone with our limited amount of delivery resources. Again, all purchases are welcome and we appreciate your support, however we also require your cooperation.
A third change is our new shopping cart system to make your purchasing easier, and allow you to make donations via our website as well.
What is returning is our discounted pricing for larger orders:
When camping back country, it’s important to store your food and other “smellables” out of reach of bears and other critters. Food, toothpaste, bug spray and other heavily scented items will attract animals, so it’s important to keep these items out of your tent and stored safely away from the rest of the campsite.
This video explains one way to hang a bear bag. It is also a skill we will practice.
Everyone has great ideas on how to make camping easier, safer, more fun, less expensive or more conservation minded. All you have to do is search for “camping hacks” and come up with lists and lists of interesting, odd, silly and really great ideas.
So here’s a challenge: Find your favorite camping hack and share it in the comments below. Even better if you can use it yourself (or have used it before). Also, more points if you recycle or reuse (a Scout is thrifty). Light weight, easy to pack and multipurpose, better yet.
This year’s mulch sale has wrapped up — all the mulch has been ordered and will be arriving by truck on Tuesday morning. Deliveries will begin that week and continue through Saturday, April 7 (weather permitting).
Thank you neighbors for your support. Thank you parents for helping with deliveries through the week. And Scouts, you better bulk — you’ve got a lot of hefty bags to deliver. 🙂
If you have any comments or questions about delivery, please post them below.

Special Meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, to go over merit badge prerequisites, paperwork review and turn-in, final packing instructions, logistics, questions and anything else related to Summer Camp.
This is a MANDATORY meeting for all parents and scouts going to Camp Rodney, whether you are going with the troop or on your own.
Bring 2 copies of your completed BSA physical to include two copies of your insurance card for each scout and adult. Make sure your last TDAP (or Tetanus) shot was within 10 years. Keep one additional copy for yourself — you will not get the two copies back.
Adults spending the night need a physical — including the Tetanus shot. Use the same physical forms above.
Bring any pre-reqs you need to have signed off. We will be teaching the CPR familiarization requirement as a troop during the meeting. All other requirements are in the program guide listed with the merit badge classes you are taking.
